Consultant on Citizen Data Quality UN: Supporting Colombia’s Statistical System

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is hiring a Consultant on Citizen Data Quality UN. You will work remotely on a nine-month contract to support a key project in Colombia. For instance, the role’s main purpose is to develop and validate a citizen data quality assessment model. You will collaborate closely with civil society to achieve this. The model will, in turn, enhance the integration of citizen data into the national statistical system. Consequently, it will support evidence-informed policymaking in the country.

First and foremost, this consultancy requires you to provide specialized technical advice to Colombia’s National Statistical Office (DANE). You will help establish clear criteria and standards to evaluate citizen data. This will, therefore, align the data with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). You will, furthermore, play a crucial role in strengthening Colombia’s statistical capacity and advancing evidence-based policymaking.


 

Your Responsibilities as a Data Quality Consultant

 

As a Consultant on Citizen Data Quality, you will facilitate collaboration and provide technical support. Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Model Development: You will prepare a proposal for a citizen data quality assessment model. This proposal will, in fact, follow guidelines from DANE and the outcomes of workshops with civil society organizations (CSOs).
  • Stakeholder Coordination: You will establish liaisons with the core national team, government agencies, international consultants, and UN DESA staff. This ensures the effective delivery of training and advisory services.
  • Workshop Facilitation: You will coordinate workshops and training sessions with key stakeholders. You will work with the UN Statistics Division (UNSD) and DANE to validate the final quality model.
  • Communication & Reporting: You will identify opportunities for dissemination and promotion at national and regional levels. In addition, you will develop communication materials for user engagement and prepare a comprehensive progress review. You will submit this report to UNSD and EAPD by 31 May 2026.

Qualifications for a UN Data Quality Consultant

 

We are seeking a professional with a strong technical background and exceptional communication skills.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • You must have an advanced university degree in development studies, social sciences, or a related field. You should also have five years of relevant experience. For instance, we may accept a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • You must have full fluency in both spoken and written Spanish. The consultancy will be conducted in Spanish.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English is also required. You will communicate with international organizations and consultants in English.
  • You must have a strong understanding of quality assessment processes and quality assurance frameworks.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • You have knowledge of social and community work.
  • You have experience facilitating stakeholder engagement and convening sessions. This experience supports in-country project activities.
  • Notably, you have experience working with international development partners and civil society organizations. This experience is particularly valuable in areas like open data and statistical capacity development.
  • You have technical expertise in one or more areas related to DESA’s work, such as economics or statistics.
